Fact & Fiction is a medium-sized family publishing and printing company, owned and run by Roger and Hilary Pearson. The name Fact & Fiction was taken from a bookshop we opened in Wath-on-Dearne in 1987, a cosy little place with free coffee and jazz and lots of time for browsing. We made many friends throughout the book trade by attending bookfairs up and down the country. Bookdealing became a way of life. In 1992, Roger thought of compiling a catalogue, and so telephoned Camille Wolff in London to ask her advice about the best way to present his copy for printing. Before he realized it, he had promised to print her next catalogue, having told her of his extensive experience in the printing industry as a trained letterpress compositor. We had six weeks to organize machinery, ink and paper. It was hectic but we succeeded, and the catalogue was delivered on time and in person. Fact & Fiction - Publishers and Printers was born. Roger's talent as a graphic designer and Hilary's blue-pencil skills set us apart from other companies. We are perfectionists, and we are not happy until our customer is happy.
Since that day we have printed lithographically thousands of catalogues for the booktrade, and helped with the publication of journals, brochures, etc, throughout the UK for authors and editors of all kinds.
In 1995, we moved to our present attractive building, still in Wath, where many of our customers have visited us over the years. Everyone is welcome to call in for a coffee and a chat, and to meet our very efficient staff.
Modern technology has transformed the printing industry over the last ten years, and made publication a real possibility for anyone with a computer, Although we cannot yet offer full-colour printing, or perfect binding, the variations in booklets are endless, and we tailor each job to our customer's image and needs.
We feel we deserve our reputation for clear printing and speed of turnaround, and we hope to continue to serve the public for many years to come.
Our work now involves more and more publishing, both in-house and for other authors. The future is certainly exciting!
